Why the name?
SwissBorg
SWISS — the group is scattered around the world; some of us are simply originally from Switzerland.
BORG — short for Biological Organisms Research Group: a small, independent group studying biology, synthetic organisms, and the growing role AI plays in understanding and designing them.
What we're studying
- Minimal genomesHow much of a genome is actually load-bearing, and how far you can cut before something you didn't expect breaks.
- Artificial lifeSimple digital and biological systems that behave like life, and what that tells us about what "alive" requires.
- BiosafetyContainment strategies that still hold once real selective pressure starts looking for the loophole.
